Egyptian Funerary Cone of Djehuty-Mes, New Kingdom, 1570-1070 BC

Funerary cone of the priest Djehuty-Mes. The twofold rectangular impression bears two lines of hieroglyphs reading: (1) The great Wab-priest of Amun, (2) Djehuty-Mes.

Funerary cones represent the ends of roof support beams. They were inserted in rows, their inscribed flat ends facing outward, above the entrances of non-royal tombs in Thebes.

The cone is registered as fig. no. 271 in: M. Macadam, N. Davies. A Corpus of Inscribed Egyptian Funerary Cones. Oxford 1957.

Pristine condition of the stamps which are still  covered with the original red pigment. The shaft reconstituted from fragments. Point missing.
