North Syrian Deity Bust, Early 2nd Millennium BC

Terracotta deity with pointed nose and deeply impressed eyes. The applied arms resting upon the chest. Incised fingers and cross-hatched necklace.

Type MAII 1 from the North Syrian Euphrates area. For a similar bust from Tell Hariri-Mari cf. item no. 9, p. 268, plate 26 in: Leila Badre. Les Figurines Anthropomorphes en Terre Cuite à l’Age du Bronze en Syrie. Paris 1980.

Broken below the chest. Surface slightly worn. Good condition.
