Iron Age Terracotta Rider, Northern Levant, 7th Century BC

Hand modeled archaic rider with prominent nose and chin, applied pellet eyes and a barely indicated hairdo.

The mane of the missing horse has left an impression on the rider's chest.

For a similar rider in the Ashmolean museum found at Deve Huyuk I (Northern Syria) cf. museum catalogue no. Moorey (2004) 359.

Broken at the waist level, arms missing. Superb quality and condition.
