Egyptian Limestone Head of a King, 26th Dynasty to Ptolemaic, 664-31 BC

Royal head showing a calm smile, the gently curved eyes recessed to bear inlays. The king is wearing a wig which is topped by the annular base of a crown. On the forehead a square cavity to insert the uraeus.

The head is a kind of sculptor's model.

Limestone with a partially preserved gypsum layer. The bridge of the nose chipped off in places, the left side of the wig missing. Inlaid uraeus and eyes lost.
