Female Protome from a Head-pyxis, Corinthian, 600-595 BC

Archaic female head with wide open eyes, arched eyebrows and carefully painted ears. The skin embellished with a delicate pale ochre engobe.

For an identical head in Berlin, Staatliche Museen (4507) cf. plate no. 7, fig. no 4-6 in: Klaus Wallenstein. Korinthische Plastik des 7. und 6. Jahrhunderts vor Christus. Bonn 1971.

Broken at the neck, chin chipped off.
