Roman Bronze Panther Handle, 100-300 AD

Bronze chest handle with the head of a panther protruding from a central knob.

The heraldic head is rendered with knob ears, a chiseled mane and arched eyebrows which merge into the nose. The recessed face with incised eyes and a slit mouth below.

The preserved outstretched leg to solder the handle on a bronze vessel.

Excellent quality and condition with nicely rendered details. Right leg missing.
