Egyptian Apis Bull Statue, Late Period, 712-30 BC

Cast bronze statuette of the bull-god Apis striding on a rectangular base. Animal with heavy dewlap, no sun-disk between the horns.

Faint incisions on the back to render the usual winged scarab, a saddlecloth and an open-winged vulture.

Apis was worshipped as a manifestation of the Memphite creator god Ptah.

Points of the horns missing, otherwise good condition. Mounted on a veined green stone plinth.
