Late Corinthian Aryballos, 570-550 BC

Flat-bottomed Corinthian aryballos showing a large siren, standing with outstretched wings in front of a swan.

The siren is wearing a polos. Neat incisions for the details of the face, the ear and the stepped hair. A red spot near the chin to indicate some kind of beard (?)

Incised lines for the feathers and applied red color on the upper registers of the wings. The swan cursorily rendered in as a silhouette. Single dots and some rosettes in the field.

Intact. Surface and black glaze with some wear, red color partially faded. Edges of the rim and the foot chipped.

H. 13.1 cm (5.15 in), D. 11.6 cm (4.55 in)
