Gnathia Ware Skyphos of the Alexandria Group, ca. 300 BC

Thin walled skyphos of rounded body. Below the rim white blobs flanking a line. One side with a wheel motif at center. Red lines at the join to the ribbed body.

The inside of the foot and the reserved area to the beaker covered with a dense red wash.

Good example of the Alexandria Group. Close in shape and size to item no. 258 in: J.W. Hayes. Greek and Italian Black-Gloss Wares and Related Wares in the Royal Ontario Museum. Toronto 1984.

H. 9 cm (3.5 in), W. handles 13.6 cm (5.35 in)

Intact and of museum quality. Some craquelure on the gilded white, excellent preservation of applied decoration.
