Coptic Fabric Fragment from a Clavus, Egypt, 7th/8th Century AD

Egyptian Coptic clavus fragment which stylized animals between black bands.

The imagery is still Greek rather than Christian, showing an eagle/rooster (?), a winged griffin and a lion/panther looking backwards.

The lower border with a floral chain.

Fragmentary, joining two cut pieces. Good state of preservation, mounted behind glass in an acid-free environment.
