Egyptian Terracotta Rooster, Roman Period, 2nd/3rd Century AD

Molded pottery rooster standing on a conical base. Crest and beak rendered with impressed lines. The bird’s drumstick and claws neatly discernible.

Some surface encrustation and weathering, otherwise intact. Traces of white and blue pigment.

Formerly in the collection of Pilar Muñiz de Camahort, acquired in the 1950s. Pilar Muñiz de Camahort was married to Ricardo Muñiz y Verdugo, Minister Counselor in the Spanish Embassy to King Farouk and later President Nasser.
