A Pair of Sumerian Shell Beads, 3500-3000 BC

A couple of shell beads or pendants of annular shape with pierced knobs for suspension.

The rings remind Sumerian shell money cut from cone shaped shells brought from the Mediterranean shore.

Shell money has been found at various sites in the Near East, primarily at the locations of the early cities of Mesopotamia and along the trade routes between Assyria and Sumeria.

Intact. Fine condition with slight wear.
