Large Volutes of an Apulian Krater, 325-300 BC

Couple of substantial volutes showing Medusa masks on each side.

The heads with classical features and traces of white pigment for the skin. The striated hairdo  with a v-shaped diadem at center.

Deep volute drums (13 cm - 5.1 in) with vent holes on the sides.

Closely related masks are attributed to the Baltimore Painter and his associates.

H. without stand 17 cm (6.7 in) and 13.5 cm (5.3 in)

Appealing condition with a few missing chips. Black glaze details painted over the white ground partially lost. Remains of red pigment on the hairdo.
