Large Etruscan Impasto Ware Olla, 7th Century BC

Rare Caeretan olla with fairly high belly and marked shoulder. The broad neck inset with a ridge at center and curving out at rim. Standing on a small flat base.

The shape is South Etruscan, similar items have been found at Caere (Cerveteri) – cf. item 18, p. 190f and no. 7, p. 258 in: Maria Bugli. Gli Etruschi e Cerveteri. Milan 1980.

Smooth reddish-brown impasto. Intact except for a small chip out of the rim. Probably hand modeled with fine vertical striations from the burnishing process. Root marks.
