Coptic Polychrome Fragment with Youth, 4th/6th century AD

Textile fragment with the fine polychrome depiction of a sitting youth or child, probably Eros, holding a basket as symbol of abundance.

The small chubby figure has curled yellow hair and wears a colored belt only.

The burgundy red friezes are separated by ornamental bands and show a profusion of colored flowers and leafs inside.

Fragmentary. Precious coloring and excellent design.
