Large
black-glazed bell-krater with an inset edge at the join to the flaring rim
and round-sectioned handles turning upwards.
The handle-panels reserved as well as the outer face and the bottom of the
foot.
Black Attic bell-kraters are quite rare. For a vase close in shape and size
cf. item no. 60 in: B.A. Sparkes, L. Talcott. The Athenian Agora. Black and
Plain Pottery. Princeton 1970.
The present vase does not show the typical color of the Athenian clay and
could thus be an Atticizing krater from Magna Graecia.
Unbroken vase. Silvery black glaze with pitting and scratches in places.
Inside reserved except for a glazed inside rim. Soil deposits.
H. 25.3 cm (10 in), D. 26.5 cm (10.4 in)
