Apulian Red-Figure Lekanis with Female Heads, ca. 330 BC

Lid with two female heads flanked by palmettes and stylized volutes.

The 'Ladies of Fashion' are nearly identical and wear an ornate sakkos leaving a bun projecting at rear, a spiked crown, earrings and necklaces.

The lid’s knob with radiating strokes on top. The black-glazed dish has an inset flange to receive the lid and is set on a high hollow foot.

Intact with slight wear of the glaze. Small chip out of the lid’s knob. Fine condition. Added white 'gilded' with dilute brown glaze for the details of the headdresses and the jewelry.
