Attic Red-figure Lekythos with Domestic Scene, ca. 450 BC

Attic lekythos with a woman holding a mirror. The lady is wearing a sakkos and earrings; she is clad in a finely pleated chiton and a himation. Her right breast beneath the chiton is indicated, but wrongly placed. A fillet suspended behind her.

Closely related to a lekythos in Prague attributed near the Tymbos painter: cf. CVA Praque, Université Charles 1, 59, Pl. (047) 47.10

The Tymbos painter was a contemporary of the Aischines painter.

Intact. Dilute glaze for the folds of the chiton. Black glaze turned to red-brown in places. Soil deposits at the join to the neck.
