Roman Oil Lamp with Crouching Dog, 2nd/3rd Century AD

Mould made Roman oil lamp with a concave discus depicting a chained dog looking back, crouching between a filling hole and an air slit.

Narrow sloping shoulder with a row of ovules, a ring handle with trails placed at rear. A heart-shaped nozzle on front.

The defined circular base impressed with the mark of a foot (planta pedis).

Intact, fine condition. Thin walled and light as a feather. Light tan clay with partially worn slip.
