Greek Gnathia Ware Dish with Dolphins, 325-300 BC

Greek Gnathia ware dish with shallow floor and gently raised lip. The partially faded black glaze with three almost preserved dolphins encircling a central flower.

The dolphins rendered in applied white color with their backs and tail fins ‘gilded’ with dilute ochre.

Intact. Black glaze peeled off and central flower faded. Fingertips around the short ring foot, where the dish was hold to soak it into the medium for the black glaze.
