Etruscan Votary Statuette from the Ernst Beyeler Collection, 600-575 BC

Archaic female votary wearing a short-sleeved and belted garment drawn over her head and reaching to the instep of the pointed shoes.

Both arms are held downwards, the palms facing open in the traditional gesture of prayer.

The elongated face with knob eyes, flattened nose, recessed mouth area and round chin. The face framed by hair layered in broad horizontal strips.

The neckline of the garment with a round corded edge. On the chest a bulla suspended from a necklace.

Intact. Greenish black patina.
