Sabaean Stone Bull Protome, Arabian Peninsula, 2nd Century BC-AD

The large almond-shaped eyes contoured with carved lines. The edged head shows a linear rendition of the snout and the mouth. The vestigial ears appear behind the missing horns.

The triangular patch of hair on the forehead with a square hole that connects with a channelling carved along the animal’s neck.

The head protome served as spout on a now lost basin.

Expressive rendering of the details. Horns missing. Nice dendrites on the surface.

H. 5.5 cm (2.2 in)
