Etruscan Impasto Ware Chalice, circa 650 BC

Footed bowl of rounded body and short flat rim.

For an inscribed example of identical shape formerly in the Campana collection, now in the Louvre (Inv. Cp 3414) cf.: Die Etrusker in Europa, Exhibition catalogue, p. 132, lot no. 118.

Impasto pottery shows a warm brown color and was the forerunner of the Etruscan black Bucchero ceramic.

Fine quality with highly polished surface. Small shard out of the trumpet-shaped foot restored, foot reattached. Soil and sinter deposits in places.
