Paestan Oinochoe with Fountain House Scene, 350-330 BC

Rare depiction of a fountain house with a diademed woman and a nude satyr stepping forward to reach for a large white hydria.

The fountain house is rendered with tall Ionic columns on either side, the band of dotted ovolos above being the roof.

The water pours from two spouts into large ribbed hidriai placed on stands. The vessels show much detail in dilute glaze.

The big-headed satyr reminds of those made by the Paestan painter Pithon. For a similar fellow cf. CVA Bonn Akademisches Kunstmuseum 3, 100-101, fig. 41, pl. (2940, 2941) 59.1-2, 60.1.

Intact, fine condition. Minor wear on the reserved areas and the applied white color.
