Roman red-ware lamp decorated on
the discus with a rosette. Pierced at center with adjacent filling-hole.
Hayes type I lamp. Grooves on the shoulder, a vestigial rim around the discus
and the nozzle channel.
Grooved handle at the rear, unpierced. Raised base with double rib extending to
the handle. A sprig design under the base.
Antique collector’s label on the side reading: Trouvé à Sousse – le x de xxxx
Sousse, ancient Hadrumetum, is located on the Gulf of Hammamet, south of modern
Tunis.
Intact and fine. Minor surface wear.
