Etruscan Bronze Votive Hands, 680-670 BC

Pair of hands with rounded palms, elongated fingers and bend out thumbs.

Bosses at the junction to the fingers. Further bosses for the joints on the thumbs.

Made from single bronze sheets, closed at the wrist and slightly bent at the edges.

For a similar pair of hands in the Villa Giulia Museum Rome, cf. inv. no. 84867-8 in: M. Torelli. The Etruscans. London 2001.

Fine condition. Tiny crazes on some fingers and the wristbands. One hand with small holes and minor erosion on the upper edge of the sleeve.

H. 22 cm (8.7 in) and 21 cm (8.3 in)

Swiss private collection, since the 1960s.
