Attic Black-Figure Band Cup, ex Christie's 1974, 530-520 BC

Attic Little Master band cup decorated on both sides with a fierce lion flanked by men.

The lions with curled tails, raised forepaw, and open teeth-baring mouths. The men clad in vividly decorated coats. Incised details, applied white and crimson red.

Palmettes to either side of the handles. The interior with a reserved central medallion. Tags underneath the base.

Foot and handle reattached. Fine condition, minor wear. Refined and delicate miniature style. Excellent provenance.

Ex Christie's London, 10th July 1974 sale, lot no. 107. Acquired by the Swiss gallery owner Elsa Bloch-Diener and sold September 1982 to Swiss private collection.
