Rare Roman Silber Snake Brooch, 2nd-3rd Century AD

Unique and well preserved robe brooch with a double-headed snake.

The bulged silver bow shows a snake body with a stylized scale pattern. The pin catch merges into two erect snake heads. The coiled bronze spring with external chords ending in snakelike tails.

The motif of the erect double-headed snake bears an apotropaic purpose.

Pristine preservation.
