Greek Attic Lekythos with Veiled Woman, Published 1957, around 450 BC

Fine red-figure lekythos decorated with a woman clad in a heavy himation, her wrapped hands in front of her chest. The finely pleated chiton underneath rendered with dilute glaze.

The woman stands in front of a column with prominent capital and base, on the right a suspended sash.

The frieze with a key pattern and top and a reserved ground line. Two bands of (faded) tongues on the shoulder.

Published with H.H. Kricheldorf Auktionen Stuttgart, February 1957 sale, lot no. 122 (copy of the catalogue entry joined).

Spout reattached, reserved areas slightly worn in places. Black lines and tongues faded.
