Etruscan Bucchero Kyathos, Ex Arete, 600- 550 BC

Finely ribbed vase with flared rim and a looped handle topped by a plain crest and a button.

The vertical grooves pressed out from the inside of the bowl. Standing on a tall, trumpet-shaped foot.

Rasmussen Type 4b, common during the first half of the 6th century BC

H. 17.7 cm (7 in), H. to rim 9.1 cm (3.6 in), D. 11.5 cm (4.5 in)

Foot partially restored, otherwise intact and fine. Finely burnished, silvery surface.

Swiss family collection of E. Gübelin-Niedermann. Acquired from Galerie Arete, Zürich, December 1967 – well before the UNESCO World Heritage Convention of 1972 (copy of invoice and inventory list joined).
