Large vase of outstanding provenance, recorded in 1946, well before the UNESCO World
Heritage Convention of 1972.
Black-glazed globular vessel
decorated with a white lotus-palmette-bud on the shoulder. Diminutive rings
close to the top of the palmette.
Tiny white and red lines running just below the join to the handle; a broader
red line around the belly.
Remains of red around the mouth and the outer face of the foot.
The vase belongs to the Late Corinthian Mu-Pi Series.

Rare shape. Hard-fired pottery reconstituted from large fragments. Glace with
minor wear in places.
Private German collection since 1946. Joined by the (original) written statement
of Prof. Dr. Carl Blümel, former director of the Staatliche Museen Berlin, dated
21.08.1946.
