Oceanic Basketry Covered Box with Artifacts, 19th/20th Century AD

Collection of Oceanic objects including pendants made of animal teeth, some strung on neatly crafted cords made of plant fibres.

The organic material consists of wild boar tusks, jaw sections of rodents and larger animals, single fangs, and bird claws.

Appealing greenstone hand axe head and a beautifully crafted stone tool for drilling. Fossilized (?) bone or wood piece.

The central pompon on the lid enhanced with dark fillets and glass beads. The sides of the lid with richly stitched red fabric.

L. 18 cm (7.1 in), H. 8.5 cm (3.3 in)
