Attic Black-Glazed Lekythos, 500-450 BC

Tall Attic lekythos of cylindrical body with sharp-edged shoulder.

Fine lustrous black glaze with superb finish. The reserved areas with traces of a red wash.

The lekythos was exposed to fire and shows areas of greyish discoloration.

For closely related examples, cf. Beazley vase no. 1010069 and Paris, Musée du Louvre, inv. no. LL 100 (N 1867).

H. 26.4 cm (10.4 in)

Intact, rare type. Fine metallic black glaze with some greyish patches.

Ex US collection E. W., acquired over the past 40 years.
