Attic Skyphos with Lotus Palmette Chain, Pistias Class, around 480 BC

Attractive Greek footed skyphos decorated with a lotus bud palmette chain.

The lotus buds are separated by small tongues and stand upright on the chain design below.

Connected to the Pistias Class.

Thin-walled, excellent quality. Reconstituted from fragments. Black glaze partially turned red-brown.

Old restoration used bone glue.

Ex collection of Professor Robert McElderry (1869-1949), acquired in Greece in the 1930's.
